Back in 1975 Helle launched a knife that would in many ways change how we thought about knives in Scandinavia. In collaboration with Tor Indergaard, Helle created a new knife where the blade was only half as long as was common at the time. This small, new invention was called the Helle Fjording. This model carved the way for the Nying, and as they say - the rest is history.
To mark the 50 year anniversary of this important event for Helle, we dedicate our 2025 Limited Edition Knife to the Fjording 50 år
The Fjording 50 år (Translation: Fjording 50 years) preserves many of the defining, innovative features of the original design. It has the same, short and stubby blade shape and contoured handle that means it excels at carving and woodworking. It also comes with a wrap-around style sheath that you can secure either to your belt and backpack and keep it securely in its place.
At the same time ther is upgraded the materials on the knife. While the original came with a thinner carbon steel, the blade on the Fjording 50 år is in our thicker Laminate H3LC steel. On the handle there is added style and modern materials. The original was a one-piece birch handle. The Fjording 50 år features a stunning, composite handle made out of curly birch, stabilised, green curly birch and leather. The “Helle-colored” green curly birch in the handle represents both how important this design has been for the brand but also the new techniques that Helle are embracing. The wrap-around sheath is made in high-grade, tan leather.
The Fjording 50 år honors an important part of the Helle legacy while bringing the execution in to the 21st century, and as such follows in line with Helle's other limited edition designs.
